Aston Villa and West Ham United played out a goalless draw at Villa Park on Monday night.
In what is only the third 0-0 after five rounds of action in the 2019-20 Premier League season, neither side created many clear cut opportunities as both sides appeared happy to settle for a point.
The most notable point of the game was Hammers left-back Arthur Masuaku receiving a second yellow card midway through the second half.
West Ham continued to try taking the game to Villa in the final 20 minutes despite being down a man, whilst the hosts seemed somewhat negatively affected by the extra man.
The point moves Dean Smith’s Aston Villa out of the relegation zone, ahead of Newcastle United on goal difference. West Ham missed out on the opportunity to move into sole third place but instead are level on points with Tottenham Hotspur who occupy that place, but down in eighth place due to their inferior goal difference of the six sides on eight points.
